Walter Takano hace historia: primer peruano en completar las 7 majors con tiempos por debajo de las 3 horas

El corredor peruano Walter Takano escribió un nuevo capítulo en la historia del atletismo al convertirse en el primer peruano en completar las siete Abbott World Marathon Majors en menos de tres horas cada una. Alcanzó este logro tras cruzar la meta de la TCS Sydney Marathon el pasado 31 de agosto con un tiempo de 2:57:24, ubicándose en el puesto 14 de la categoría 55-59 años.
La “séptima maravilla” del maratón
Desde este año, la TCS Sydney Marathon forma parte de la prestigiosa serie Abbott World Marathon Majors, junto con Tokio, Boston, Londres, Berlín, Chicago y Nueva York. Considerada la “séptima maravilla del mundo del maratón”, es la única Major en el hemisferio sur y el último legado activo de los Juegos Olímpicos de Sídney 2000.
El recorrido es tan desafiante como icónico: inicia en North Sydney, atraviesa el Harbour Bridge, pasa por The Rocks, Circular Quay y Centennial Park, y culmina frente a la emblemática Opera House. En su primera edición, reunió a más de 35,000 corredores de 120 países, consolidándose como la maratón más grande de Australia.
La trayectoria de Walter Takano
Takano comenzó en el fondismo a los 14 años y hoy, a sus 57, mantiene una carrera marcada por la constancia y la disciplina. En 2023, se ubicó como el sexto mejor peruano en la Maratón de Berlín y en este año ganó el primer lugar de su categoría en el Ironman 70.3 de Manta, lo que le valió la clasificación al Campeonato Mundial de Niza 2026, uno de los torneos más prestigiosos del triatlón internacional.
Además de sus logros deportivos, es entrenador, dirige el Intense Running Club y lidera Takano Store, iniciativas con las que impulsa el crecimiento del running en el Perú.
“Mi objetivo siempre ha sido inspirar a más peruanos a creer que los límites se pueden superar. Completar las siete majors bajo las tres horas es una prueba de disciplina, pasión y constancia”, señaló Takano tras su histórica participación en Sídney.
