Julio Velarde participó en panel del Foro Económico Mundial
El presidente del Banco Central de Reserva del Perú (BCRP), Julio Velarde, participó en el panel “Cómo destrabar el techo de crecimiento de América Latina”, organizado por el Foro Económico Mundial en el marco de su reunión anual en Davos, Suiza.
El panel abordó los principales retos estructurales que enfrenta la región para acelerar su crecimiento económico, en un contexto en el que América Latina crece alrededor del 2%, y la necesidad de avanzar hacia economías más diversificadas, productivas y con mayor inversión.
En su intervención, Velarde destacó la estabilidad macroeconómica y el fortalecimiento institucional como pilares del crecimiento sostenido, así como la mejora de los servicios públicos y la inversión en educación como estrategia de desarrollo de largo plazo. Resaltó la estabilidad del tipo de cambio y de los bonos soberanos peruanos incluso en escenarios de volatilidad, al señalar que, pese a hacer tenido nueve presidentes, la moneda casi no se ha movido.
Asimismo, indicó que la inestabilidad macroeconómica, reflejada en altos déficits fiscales e inflación, ha sido uno de los factores detrás del menor crecimiento de América Latina frente a Asia, y subrayó que invertir en educación y fortalecer las instituciones es clave para lograr prosperidad.
Durante la sesión también se analizaron los efectos de las tensiones geoeconómicas globales y la competencia entre potencias por ampliar su influencia en América Latina, factores que inciden en las decisiones de inversión y en el desempeño de las economías emergentes.
El panel fue moderado por Gillian R. Tett, provost de King’s College, University of Cambridge, y contó con la participación de Esther Dweck, ministra de Gestión e Innovación en Servicios Públicos de Brasil; James Scriven, CEO de BID Invest; Altagracia Gómez Sierra, coordinadora del Consejo Asesor de Desarrollo Económico Regional y Reubicación de la Oficina de la Presidencia de México; y Juan Carlos Mora, CEO de Bancolombia.
